Overall, being in Kids International was invaluable and it provided me with a number of skills. This was one of the first times I had to properly plan and execute a specific project. It allowed me to see the different ways one can impact a community. In the past, service has always involved teaching or playing with children, however, this project showed me how one can have just as big - or in fact a bigger - influence on them. - Sana
About the Site:
Kids International Ministries are a non-profit Christian organization with the goal of helping people located in San Juan. They provide donations and supplies to the nearby Cuatro Christian school and also help take care of kids in the local orphanage. Their goal is to help many of these children get a quality education and also help to provide funding for a select few to go to college overseas. On top of this, they hope to provide the locals with the chance to receive medical attention with the addition of a new medical center.
Mission: To meet the needs of abandoned children by providing them with an environment that cares for their spiritual, educations, physical and emotional needs.
Aim: To achieve P.E.A.C.E.
Kids International is heavily involved in many programs, such as:
Feedings: to help feed those that are most in need on a daily basis
Medical outreach and dental clinic: to help those who are sick and unable to care for themselves
Community schools: to educate those who can’t afford to go to school and help them reach their full potential
Trades education: to help those who want to get a higher education but may not be able to afford trade school
Literacy program: to teach basic reading to those who might not ever have the chance to learn otherwise
Sports outreach: sports crosses all barriers and allows us to reach out through another medium
Children’s home: this is where kids can have a safe and nurturing environment that encourages them to grow and reach their full potential
